Our Staff
All employees must be examples of maturing Christians. Teachers are required to have twelve post-secondary units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. These courses must have been completed at an accredited or approved college or university. Our teachers must also complete an approved Pediatric CPR and First Aid class. All employees must submit to U.S. Department of Justice and FBI clearance procedures prior to being employed by El Cajon Wesleyan Preschool.
Discipline
El Cajon Wesleyan Preschool believes in using natural consequences, redirection, verbalization of emotions, and “time-outs” when discipline becomes necessary. We believe children mature and learn responsibility best when they are held accountable for their actions. We also believe discipline is most effective when there is an atmosphere of mutual respect and caring between the child and staff member. At no time will children receive physical punishment, be shamed or humiliated, or frightened by any staff member or volunteer in our school.
Nutrition
Our center participates in a federally funded food program that partially reimburses the school for food costs. We offer all enrolled children a nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack.
Music and Movement
A music and movement instructor offers a class one morning a week at no additional cost to the parents.
Our Philosophy
El Cajon Wesleyan Preschool is a Christ-centered extension ministry of the El Cajon Wesleyan Church. Our purpose is to provide quality, affordable childcare while demonstrating God’s love and understanding to preschool-age children.
Our program is designed to nurture the spiritual, social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and creative development of each child. Our staff is committed to much more than just child maintenance. Our mission is to provide you and your child with a safe, accepting environment that allows kids to be kids.
We encourage children to develop their individuality and uniqueness. While academically balanced, our program is geared to providing children with the tools and equipment to explore and learn at their own pace. Our Pre-K class is designed to prepare children academically, emotionally, and socially for the challenges of kindergarten, while still allowing the children to be preschoolers.
Our child-to-teacher ratio per class is a follows:
Infant: 4 to 1
Toddler 6 to 1
Preschool 12 to 1
