Bios for Staff
Stephen Forsyth – Senior Pastor
Pastor Steve is a Jersey boy who loves the New York Yankees. He is happily married to Sherry (25+ years) and will tell you the success of their marriage is based on one principle: give and take…he give, she takes…ha ha! They have three children, seven grandchildren and three dogs. Pastor Steve has been an Army National Guard Chaplain 20 years now. He has a passion for his family, pepsi and the beach…but most of all he loves Jesus Christ and loves seeing the changes that Christ makes in other’s lives. His life verse is Isaiah 55:8-11: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Debbie Simmons – Graphics/Staff Secretary
Debbie has been attending ECW with her husband, Tim, since January of 1991. Debbie and Tim have two adult children; Beth and Tim Jr. (Timmy). Debbie is the Staff Secretary for ECW, but is also involved with our Surge Youth Ministry. Debbie accepted Christ into her life at the age of 15 while attending a local Youth Ministry. Because of her personal experience, she has a passion for helping teens grow in their Christian faith so they can mature into Christian adults. She enjoys volunteering as a sports coach for the Special Olympics, attending events supporting kids in both 4H and FFA, country line dancing and attending sporting events in support of teens involved in the Youth Ministry.
Chris(tine) Hughes – Executive Pastor
Chris loves all things sports…as long as she is a fan and not a participant! She especially loves the Boston Red Sox and the San Francisco Giants. She also loves a happy ending and admits to watching the sappy Hallmark movies much to her husbands dismay! She and her husband Ken have three adult children, Ryan, Matt and Megan. She enjoys going to Padres’ games as well as SDSU men’s basketball games with Ken and at Christmas time they have a tradition of watching a different Christmas movie or show each night of December. She was ordained in 2005 and has completed her Master of Divinity from the Wesleyan Seminary. As the executive pastor she gives over site to the organizational functioning of the church and overall campus usage. She loves to help connect people with each other and Christ and then discover their purpose in fulfilling the mission God has for them.
Have you ever wanted to know useless trivia about a random topic? Then Pastor Dan is the one you need to talk to! He is filled with useless information that will delight and perplex (Just ask him about milk!). But his real passion is helping people grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Dan is the head of Family Ministries so you’ll see him working with everyone from Young Adults and Young Families to the little Preschool kids and everyone in-between. He is an avid reader (especially non-fiction topics in spirituality, leadership, and finance) and loves to work out. But most of his free time is spent with his beautiful wife Krissy and spunky son Micah.
Ashley loves the beautiful dichotomy that is music–order and structure with freedom and passion. Through times of genuine worship, she hopes to help people see glimpses of the greatness of God. She divides her time between serving alongside the staff and volunteers at ECW as the worship leader and choir director and teaching as a private music instructor for piano, voice and guitar. Besides music, Ashley is super enthusiastic about pursuing her study of Spanish. (!Si hablas español, por favor ven a hablar conmigo! !Necesito practicar!) Her life’s adventure is blessed by the companionship and support of her husband Kevin and the sweet cuddles and exhuberance of her son Kaden.
